ALLEGED “social media dating swindler“ Pius Emokpe, 47, abandoned his right to apply for bail in the Kimberley Magistrates’ Court.

National prosecuting authority regional spokesperson Mojalefa Senokoatsane said that the bail application had to be postponed after Emokpe requested the court to allow him to get additional documents which would assist him in his bail application.

“Emokpe is accused of having defrauded a woman he met on a social media platform. The amount involved is more than R3, =4 million. The accused made use of a false name and claimed that he was a biologist, employed by a South African company.”

Senokoatsane added that the accused was arrested by the police when the woman opened a case against him.

“The case was adjourned until July 18 to allow investigations to continue.”

He stated that the accused would remain in custody until his next court appearance.
