Alleged stabbing suspect arrested by a Kimberley neighbourhood watch group and handed over to police

A 28-YAER-old man died after he was stabbed at a tavern in Phakamile Mabija Street on Friday shortly before midnight.

Captain Tessa Jansen said members of the Kimberley SAPS Flying Squad were patrolling when they came across a crowd opposite HI-Q in Phakamile Mabija Street at about 11.50pm on Friday.

“Upon investigation they found a 28 year old man lying on his stomach, unconscious with a stab wound.”

She added that emergency medical services certified the man dead on the scene.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the victim was drinking at a tavern and was stabbed before he left.

“While the police were still on the crime scene, the 25-year-old suspect was caught by members of the Kimberley Neighbourhood Watch and brought to the crime scene and handed over to the police.”

Jansen stated that the suspect was arrested.

“He is expected to appear in the Kimberley Magistrate’s court soon on a charge of murder.” “
