THE ACCUSED in the Mankurwane post office armed robbery, Frans Dillon Morakile, has indicated that he intends to apply for bail.

National Prosecuting Authority regional spokesperson Mojalefa Senokoatsane said on Wednesday that Morakile made a brief appearance in the Galeshewe District Court recently.

“The accused is facing a charge of robbery with aggravating circumstances. The 27-year-old is accused of having robbed the post office branch in Mankurwaneng near Kimberley,” said Senokoatsane.

“It is alleged that on the day of the incident, the accused, together with his accomplice, entered the post office where they accosted and pointed employees with firearms. During the robbery, the accused managed to take money amounting to about R230,000, before fleeing on foot.”

Senokoatsane added that community members launched a “crime-busting operation” to assist in searching for the suspects.

“They successfully apprehended the accused, before handing him over to the police. The accused was found in possession of thousands of rand in cash, together with the firearms that were used during the robbery.”

Senokoatsane said the case was postponed until July 19, for the accused to submit a formal bail application.

“He was remanded in custody until his next court appearance, while investigations are ongoing.”
