THE ACCUSED who is standing trial for the drive-by shooting in Impala Road, Verwoerdpark, may be charged with premeditated murder.

Kimberley Boys’ High School pupil Amogelang Assegaai, 19, was killed during the incident in front of his home on October 23.

The accused, Mbubanzi Zwakala, appeared in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday.

State prosecutor Matau Khonkhobe stated that Zwakala was now facing a Schedule 6 offence.

She requested that the bail hearing that was supposed to be heard on Monday be held over until Tuesday.

Kimberley Magistrate Jerry Tsatsimpe indicated that Zwakala’s legal representative, Riaan Bode, had to attend to another trial on Tuesday where witnesses had travelled from Limpopo to testify.

“The partly heard matter has been coming on for a long time and Bode wanted to finalise their evidence.”

Tsatsimpe postponed the formal bail hearing until Wednesday.

Zwakala will remain in custody.
