IT IS ALL systems go for the full-time return to school of pupils in the Northern Cape.

The provincial Department of Education said it has welcomed the decision by the Cabinet earlier this week that all pupils should return to the classroom on a daily basis.

Department spokesperson Geoffrey van der Merwe said on Sunday that all schools in the Province were informed about the decision by the Cabinet.

“The department issued a circular to inform all schools about the changes and the preparation required for the return of all learners. At this stage, it’s all systems go and no school has indicated that they won’t be able to return to the normal timetabling model. Our district offices will nevertheless monitor and assess the return of all learners tomorrow (Monday) as well as indicate if any major challenges are reported,” said Van der Merwe.

He noted that Covid-19 protocols such as the constant wearing of masks and hand sanitising would remain in place.

“The pharmaceutical interventions will remain in place and will be strictly enforced by all schools. Compulsory screening will continue and the implementation of the standard operating procedures (SOPs) will be closely monitored by the department.

“We thank all principals, educators and support staff at schools for their ongoing dedication, hard work and commitment to the education of our children,” Van der Merwe concluded.
