A TOTAL of 766 students were capped at Sol Plaatje University’s 8th graduation ceremony, which was held at the Mittah Seperepere Convention Centre in Kimberley on May 6.

The director of institutional advancement at the office of the vice-chancellor, Qondakele Sompondo, said that Vhugala Mulaudzi and Kagiso Thalitha Moroane were the university’s first Master’s graduates who earned their Master of Arts in Sociology, showcasing research on youth health services in rural South Africa and worker agency in the gig economy.

“In the largest graduating class since its inception, 156 School of Economic and Management Sciences, 161 School of Humanities, 120 School of Natural Applied Sciences graduates and 329 School of Education graduates were capped,” said Sompondo.

He added that Associate Professor Ahmed Bawa from the University of Johannesburg and Professor Elelwani Ramugondo, deputy vice-chancellor for transformation, student affairs and social responsiveness at the University of Cape Town, addressed the graduates.
