A 60-year-old Northern Cape man was sentenced to five years imprisonment for raping a 13-year-old girl.
A 60-YEAR-old Northern Cape man was sentenced to five years imprisonment for raping a 13-year-old girl inside his shack.
The incident took place on July 19, 2021, at around 5.30pm, when the girl was sent by her mother to fetch goods at a neighbour’s home in Modderrivier.
Northern Cape police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Sergio Kock said the accused accosted and raped the girl inside his shack.
“The girl’s mother found her inside the shack and immediately reported the matter to the police and the suspect was arrested hours later,” said Kock.
He added that the accused was recently sentenced to five years imprisonment for statutory rape by the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court.
