ABOUT 50 percent of the targeted population of educators and support staff in the Northern Cape have been vaccinated so far, with 7,688 vaccinations having been administered in the Province as of July 2.

Northern Cape Department of Education spokesperson Geoffrey van der Merwe on Sunday called on more educators to present themselves for vaccination before the deadline of July 8, especially during the school recess.

“To those who have not yet chosen the route of vaccination, we encourage them to urgently do so, as more evidence is emerging that those who are vaccinated are significantly protected from being fatally affected by Covid-19,” said Van der Merwe.

“We request staff in the education sector to embrace the opportunity as they are being acknowledged as key front-line staff who render a critical service to our communities and play a critical role in securing the future of our children.”

Van der Merwe also thanked health care workers for their commitment and dedication to ensuring that the vaccination sites in the Province were fully operational.
