IN A MAJOR step to enhance police operations across the Northern Cape, the provincial commissioner, Lieutenant-General Koliswa Otola, officially handed over 30 new police vehicles on Thursday. These vehicles are set to support police stations, detective units and specialised units throughout the Province.
The event, held at the SAPS K9 unit in Kimberley, was attended by key officials including the deputy provincial commissioner for Policing, Major-General Luntu Ngubelanga, the district commissioner for Frances Baard, Major-General Charlotte Makgari, and the provincial head for Supply Chain Management, Brigadier Karabo Makgari.
Provincial police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Sergio Kock highlighted that the new vehicles will bolster police operations and aid in the effective investigation of crime across the Province’s five districts.
The fleet includes 18 Isuzu 4×4 bakkies and nine Isuzu 4×2 double-cab bakkies, tailored for the Province’s challenging terrain.
Additionally, three fully-equipped Mobile Community Service Centre trucks were allocated to the Frances Baard, Pixley ka Seme and John Taolo Gaetsewe districts. These mobile units aim to improve service delivery in remote areas, ensuring that all communities have access to essential services.
Detective units in Carnarvon, Danielskuil, Niekerkshoop, Philipstown, Prieska, Vosburg, Warrenton, Kathu, Augrabies, Kleinzee, Komagas, and Tsineng received new vehicles.
Specialised units, including Stock Theft and Endangered Species units from Kimberley, Upington, Springbok and De Aar, as well as K9, the Kimberley Mounted unit, and Search and Rescue units, also benefited from the new allocations.
Lieutenant-General Otola reiterated the SAPS’s commitment to improving reaction times to community complaints and enhancing visible policing to maintain safety and security across the Province. She urged members to use the new resources responsibly and efficiently to continue combating crime effectively.
This strategic investment in new vehicles underscores the SAPS’s dedication to ensuring that no community is left behind in the fight against crime.
