Nightly shutdowns would continue and the municipality requested residents to continue to use water as sparingly as possible.
THE PLANNED 24-hour water shutdown for this weekend has been suspended due to the voter registration campaign.
According to the Sol Plaatje Municipality, water would have been shut down from noon on Saturday until noon on Sunday in order to boost the water levels at the Newton Reservoir.
Municipal spokesperson Sello Matsie said yesterday that a decision had been taken to suspend this weekend’s shutdown due to the national voter registration campaign, which will see all voting stations open tomorrow and on Sunday.
“This does not mean that we are out of the woods with regard to the levels at the Newton Reservoir,” Matsie said. “We are just managing the situation and residents should not take this suspension as an indication that there is an abundance of water.”
He said that nightly shutdowns would continue and the municipality requested residents to continue to use water as sparingly as possible.
