THE POLICE have confirmed that a 57-year-old motorcyclist died after crashing into a tipper truck on the N12 near Kimberley on October 23.

Northern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Molefi Shemane said on Monday that the Kimberley SAPS Serious and Violent Crimes unit is investigating a culpable homicide case following the fatal accident near the Engen garage at around 12.30pm on Thursday.

“The truck was reported to be travelling from the direction of Hopetown to Kimberley when the motorcycle rider allegedly lost control and collided with the oncoming truck, causing the truck to overturn,” Shemane explained.

He added that the motorcyclist died on the scene, while the 34-year-old truck driver sustained minor injuries.

“The investigation continues,” Shemane said.
