TWO DANIELSKUIL police officers have proven they can keep their cool under pressure – even when face to face with some of South Africa’s deadliest snakes.
Sergeant Lebogang Moreothibang and Constable Kesaoleboga Thomas recently completed specialised training in the safe handling of venomous snakes, held at Idwala Mine. The course, which covered both theory and practical skills, equipped participants to capture and relocate snakes without harming them or the public.
According to Northern Cape police spokesperson Colonel Cherelle Ehlers, the training forms part of a broader effort to ensure community safety and readiness in rural policing areas.
During the course, the two officers came into close contact with several highly venomous species, including the puff adder, green mamba, boomslang and night adder. Their successful completion of the programme means the Danielskuil SAPS now has trained members who can safely respond when snakes are found in homes, schools or workplaces.
With their new skills, Sergeant Moreothibang and Constable Thomas are now better prepared to protect both people and wildlife — turning potentially dangerous encounters into safe rescues that keep the community calm and secure.
Both officers are ready to answer the call when residents find an unexpected visitor slithering through their yards.
