A SUSPECTED burglar was arrested just hours after allegedly breaking into a home in the Middelpos area of Upington this week, thanks to the sharp eyes and fast action of patrolling SAPS officers.

According to Northern Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Omphile Masegela, officers on duty during the early hours of July 21, noticed suspicious activity near a residence and moved in to investigate. As they approached, a man took off on foot, and the police gave chase.

Members of the Upington Highway Patrol joined the pursuit, leading to the successful arrest of the 35-year-old suspect.

Unbeknownst to the sleeping homeowners, their house had been broken into — but thanks to the police's timely intervention, all stolen goods, valued at approximately R5,000, were recovered and returned.

The suspect is expected to appear in court soon as investigations continue.

The stolen goods were returned to the sleeping homeowners.
