THE GALESHEWE police have opened an inquest into the death of an 11-year-old boy who drowned in a stormwater canal near Riemvasmaak in Galeshewe on Sunday.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Timothy Sam said preliminary investigations indicated that the boy had been swimming in the canal with his friends.
“SAPS divers recovered the body from the canal and no foul play is suspected,” said Sam.
“Police investigations are continuing. An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.”
