IN JUST a few days after his TikTok duet with the American singer John Legend broke the internet, Mthandazo Gatya finally met with the renowned singer for a mind blowing performance.
Gatya had a moment for the books after sharing a stage with John Legend, who he also revealed as his favourite musician.
Gatya had expressed elation when he received a nod from the multi-award-winning talent and support from his fans.
In an interview with “The Star” the music talent revealed that he is a long supporter of John Legend.
“For someone who has been a fan of John Legend for so long, to get a nod from him is a dream come true. Before you think of other possibilities that may come with that. But him saying ‘I noticed you man, you killed it’. For me, it is a great achievement. These are the people I never even imagine myself working with.” said Gatya.
Taking to Twitter he said, “A moment I’ll never forget, thank you all for the faith in #MthandazoGatya (the) name goes down in the books, a big thanks to Mr John Legend for the invite, it means the world to me.”
Speaking about his explosive TikTok duet with Legend he said,” It was 5 am. I had gone on TikTok and bumped into John Legend’s video of his open verse challenge. Immediately I get excited because I can already hear melodies in my head. And I can already feel what I can do.” said Gatya
Mthandazo introduced himself to the mainstream with his smash hit “Senzeni” which currently has 2 platinum plaques.
Gatya recently dropped his EP titled “Journey to Infinity” which explores his life experiences, rejections, and people who left him.
“The ”Journey to Infinity” is not just about me alone but this journey and this whole healing thing; I heal through music. So a journey to infinity is going to be healing people,” said Gatya
“It’s not easy but it’s possible, you can do a song now. And then it blows up. So there is no default button to this thing, there’s no time frame.”
He says while he is elated and everything still feels surreal, he had prepared himself mentally and spiritually for big moments like these.
