Popular South African singer, Samantha Leonard, who finished third in The Voice 2017, has just released her solo album, ‘n Duisend Keuses, with the title cut, Jou Hart Sal Heel Raak.

“The song was originally written by Vaughan and Nerine Gardiner. When I first heard it, I burst into tears and I knew that I had to make this song part of my solo album. It’s as if the lyrics spoke to me and I knew it would mean something to others who have gone through a difficult time, especially to those who have lost someone special in their lives and wished they could spend one more day with them. Two of my best friends, that I call sisters, and their mom suddenly lost their dad to cancer. I cannot begin to imagine what they must go through every day, but I want them to take it one day at a time and one day their hearts will mend again,” explains Samantha.

With the release, Samantha answered some questions for us:

1. With the release of this album, is this an indication of the direction you want to map out your musical career?

No. Although this album is very close to my heart, being the creatively curious person that I am, and true musician, I don’t ever want to limit myself to only one direction, especially when it comes to my music and creativity. I want to continue exploring and growing musically as an artist.

2. Which song on your new album means the most to you, and why?

My 1st single ‘n Duisend Keuses means the most to me because it comes from the purest and honest place, written from my own pen and heart. I wanted the foundation of my album with the release of this 1st single to be a true and honest reflection of who I am as a person and artist, and also let the public into my journey/story in hope of inspiring other upcoming artists/or people out there that are going through the same obstacles life throws our way, to show them that no matter how hard/impossible their dreams may seem, no matter how many times they’ve tried and failed, to NEVER GIVE UP!

3. How do you see yourself influencing the SA musical landscape in the next couple of years?

I don’t think of myself as somebody that set out to influence the music industry, but if anything, I want people to feel and see my passion and drive, and if they can find inspiration from my music for themselves and their own lives, it would be fulfilling.

4. When can we see a solely Samantha Leonard written album?

I like to collaborate with different artists and writers. Although I wrote 7 songs myself on the album.
