Beyonce, who was headlining this year’s Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, made history once again this weekend, having fans renaming the iconic music festival as “Beychella”.

From the beginning of her set Beyonce took fans through the the rich history of Blackness and Black culture. Queen Bey paid homage to Nina Simone, Fela Kuti and Ancient Egyptians and Nefertiti, saluted some of Reggae’s classic hits, sang the Black National anthem, and created her own sorority and fraternity, complete with marching band, drumline and choir.

Beyonce’s s stellar performance included Formation and Sorry from her most recent hit album Lemonade.

She rendered her personal history as well. First she performed Déjà Vu with him her husband, Jay-Z, on. Then, a true surprise: a reunion with her former Destiny’s Child groupmates Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams.

After that came a playful dance routine with her sister, Solange, on Get Me Bodied. (Sadly, there was no “Ring Off” with her mother, nor a rendition of Daddy Lessons with her father.)

And the the her performance with Cardi B was out of this world.
