The police conducted a school search at Dr EP Lekhela High School in Retswelele on Tuesday.
THE KAGISHO SAPS Social Crime Prevention unit, in conjunction with members of the Community Police Forum and safety volunteers, assisted by the Galeshewe and Kimberley Social Crime Prevention and Kimberley K9 units, conducted a school search at Dr EP Lekhela High School in Retswelele, Galeshewe, on Tuesday.
Police spokesperson Sergeant Timothy Sam said school safety officers identified issues of school safety, after which the Kagisho SAPS searched pupils and classrooms.
“They found a number of items that point to drug use on the school premises. Items were seized and implicated learners will be addressed according to school protocols,” said Sam.
“The principal thanked the police for the initiative and for strengthening partnership policing.”
Sam added that SAPS members also interacted with pupils regarding the risks of smoking, drugs, and alcohol use and the impact it could have on the future of young people.
The Kagisho station commander, Colonel Michelle Ford, commended the police members for their efforts in ensuring safer schools.
She pointed out that if schools are not safe, they are not conducive to learning.
“Preventing and responding to crime-related behaviour at schools can improve educational outcomes.”
