TWO NORTHERN Cape men were sentenced to 10 and 22 years’ imprisonment respectively after a Rosedale man was killed for a loaf of bread.

Upington police spokesperson Sergeant Omphile Masegela said the accused,

Rumaco de Koker and Mpambaniso Sibabalo, were sentenced by the Northern Cape High Court on charges of robbery with aggravating circumstances and murder.

Masegela said the matter was reported to the Rosedale police on August 15, 2021 after the body of the deceased was found near Jurgenskamp in Rosedale.

“The accused robbed the deceased of R15 and a loaf of bread. He was then stabbed in the neck during the struggle and subsequently succumbed to the injury,” said Masegela.

“The investigation led to the arrest of the two suspects two days later and they were charged with robbery and murder.”

Masegela said the accused were both sentenced to 10 years in prison for robbery.

“De Koker was further sentenced to 22 years’ imprisonment for murder. The sentences will run concurrently.”

The Rosedale police welcomed the sentence and commended the investigating officer, Sergeant Joey Visagie, for ensuring the conviction.
