MEMBERS of the Galeshewe SAPS Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) unit prevented a drowning in Galeshewe.
Police spokesperson Captain Sergio Kock said that while attending to a complaint in Sewende Laan, Galeshewe, on Wednesday, at around noon, the police officers noticed an elderly man sitting on a bridge.
“The man apparently lost his balance and fell into a ditch filled with water. Sergeant Siphiwe Mdunge and Constable Patience Fortuin assisted him and managed to pull him out of the ditch,” said Kock.
“The man was taken to hospital for medical attention and is in a stable condition.”
The provincial head of FCS, Brigadier Nicky Mills, said the members were willing to put their own lives at risk to save a member of the community who was in distress.
“Their dedication and commitment to protect and serve their community does not go by unnoticed,” Mills added.
