The stolen cattle, which are worth R30,000, were handed back to the rightful owner.
FIVE suspects were arrested by the Pampierstad police after they were found in possession of suspected stolen cattle.
Northern Cape police spokesperson Captain Olebogeng Tawana said the suspects were arrested on Thursday, August 5 after the police operationalised intelligence information they had received.
“The suspects – aged 32, 36, 41, 43 and 48 years old – were tracked down and pulled off the road as they headed in the direction of Jan Kempdorp. This after they had loaded two cattle in a white Hyundai bakkie. When they were requested by officers to present documents of ownership of the cattle, they failed to produce authentic information,” said Tawana.
“The owner of the cattle was notified after members of the Kimberley Stock Theft and Endangered Species unit examined the identification mark on the cattle. According to the owner, the cattle were last seen on Wednesday, August 4, grazing in the veld near Seoding Village.”
Tawana said the cattle, which are worth about R30,000, were handed over to the rightful owner.
“Livestock owners are advised to continue to brand mark and tattoo their livestock. Brand-marked and tattooed livestock are easily identified and the owners can be located as soon as possible when the livestock are recovered from stock theft criminals,” Tawana advised.
He added that the suspects are expected to appear in the Kgomotso Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, August 10 on charges of stock theft.
