It is alleged the pair demanded a bribe of R3 500 from a complainant in exchange for awarding a driving licence
THE HAWKS in the Northern Cape yesterday arrested a senior traffic official and a driving school instructor from Jan Kempdorp on charges of corruption.
Hawks provincial spokesperson Nomthandazo Mnisi said the pair allegedly demanded a gratification from a complainant in exchange for awarding a driving licence.
“It is alleged that the traffic official, employed at the Jan Kempdorp Traffic Department, and the driving school instructor demanded a gratification of R3 500 from a complainant in exchange for awarding a driver’s licence. A sting operation was conducted, where the suspect accepted a gratification (money) and was subsequently arrested,” said Mnisi.
Both suspects are expected to appear in the local magistrate’s court today.
