THE MINISTER of Health Dr Zweli Mhkize said another 69 new Covid-19 cases were reported in the Northern Cape as of January 26, bringing the total number of cases to 31,154.

The Frances Baard district recorded the highest number of infections where 21 patients tested positive, followed by 18 cases in the ZF Mgcawu district, 13 cases in the John Taolo Gaetsewe district, eight in Pixley ka Seme and four in the Namakwa district.
Five cases have not been allocated.
The total number of deaths stand at 553 following the death of two more Covid-19-related deaths that were reported in the past 72 hours.
The recovery rate is 84 percent.
Meanwhile, the South African Local Government Association (Salga) will donate personal protective equipment to hotspot areas in the Northern Cape to combat the spread of Covid-19.
Salga marketing and communications officer, Dibandlela Nkume, said PPE including coveralls, surgical gowns, surgical gloves and heavy duty gloves would be handed over on January 28-29 in the Namakwa district municipality and surrounding areas of Namaqualand.
The PPE will be distributed at the Port Nolloth community health clinic and Nababeep community health clinic on Thursday and at the Namakwa district municipal offices and Dr Van Niekerk Hospital on Friday.
